4.18 Dye layer & Phase change stack 染料层和相变栈

To be able to record user data on the BD-R/RE disc, a recording layer is used. The recording layer differs depending if the disc is supposed to be of write-once type (i.e. BD-R) or re-recordable type (i.e. BD-RE). In both cases, the recording layer is partially covering the groove.

为了将用户数据记录到BD-R/RE盘片上,必须要有一个记录层。记录层因盘片类型是一次写入(即BD-R)还是可重写(即BD-RE)而不同。两种盘片的记录层均部分的遮住预制沟槽。

For both the BD-R and the BD-RE formats careful design of the layer composition and groove shape is necessary to achieve good recording performance. As the recording stack is based on heat in both cases, the thermal properties of the recording stack is a key to success. The heat sink properties of the recording stack can be controlled by adjusting the thickness of the metal layer. To get good overall result, the optical properties of the unrecorded groove as well as the recorded marks must also be given special attention.

BD-R和BD-RE格式的多层合成结构和沟槽形状均需精心设计方可达到好的刻录性能。因为两种格式的记录栈(层系、膜系)都是基于热效应进行工作,所以记录栈的热性能是成功之关键。记录栈的散热性能可通过调整金属层的厚度来控制。为了获得好的综合结果,未记录沟槽的光学性能和记录标记一样,必须给予特别关注。

In the case of write once media, BD-R, the recording material can be either an organic dye that is spin coated on top of the reflective layer or a series of inorganic materials sandwiched between protective layers, these also on top of the reflective layer. An inorganic recording material is made possible due to the acceptance of low reflectivity recordable media in the physical format specification. Recording is done by heating up the recording layer to a point where it decomposes or changes phase, depending on the type of recording material. The recording mechanism is in both cases permanent and irreversible. The BD-R format accepts both "on-groove" and "in-groove" recording types.

对于一次写入介质BD-R,记录材料可以是旋涂反射层之上的有机染料,也可以是夹在保护层中间的一系列无机材料,这个三明治结构也位于反射层之上。可以采用无机记录材料的原因是BD-R物理规格书中接受了低反射率记录介质。通过将加热记录层加热到某个温度,不同的记录层的材料或分解或发生相变,这样就完成了记录。两种记录层材料的记录机理均是永久而不可逆的。BD-R格式同时接受槽间记录和槽内记录。

The structure of the recording layer of re-recordable media, BD-RE, is more complex than that of write-once media. The reason for this that re-recordable media, as the name suggests, should allow re-writing of user data as well as erasing previously recorded user data. Re-writing without first erasing the previously recorded user data (i.e. direct over writing, DOW) should also be possible. Recording is done by heating up the recording layer to a point where it changes phase. Quick cooling of the recording layer is important to force the recorded marks to stay in its 'recorded state'. Slower cooling results in that the recorded marks revert to 'unrecorded state', a phenomenon used to make direct over writing possible. Careful design of the phase-change stack is necessary to control the temperature during recording, preventing material flow and to cause as little damage to the groove as possible. These things are particularly important for BD-RE media, as the format should support up to 1000 over writes with high data reliability. The BD-RE format accepts both "on-groove" and "in-groove" recording types.

对于可重写介质BD-RE来说,记录层的结比一次写入介质更加复杂。原因是,可重写介质, 顾名思义,不但应可擦除以前写入的用户数据还应可以重复写入用户数据。还应允许在不先擦除原有数据的情况下直接进行覆写(DOW)。原理是通过将记录层材料加热到某个温度使之发生相变而实现记录。快速冷却对使记录层保持"已记录"状态是非常重要的。而通过慢速冷却,记录标记会回复到"未记录状态",这个现象使直接覆写成为可能。为了控制记录过程中的温度,防止材料流动而使沟槽受到的损伤尽可能的小,对相变栈的精心设计时必要的。因BD-RE格式要求可支持1000次覆写并保证数据的高可靠性,所以这些问题特别重要。BD-RE格式也同时接受槽间记录和槽内记录。
